Yuck
It seems there are times when nothing goes right.
My father died not long ago after a long illness, so I've been helping my mom get rid of things and take care of business. The weather has been cold (as in, 18 degrees F, -25 degrees C, at night). The wisteria I planted four years ago finally bloomed for the first time and the next day the temperature was below freezing. The battery in my camera died right as I went outside to take shots of my mom's azaleas and other flowers. Its warmer today (probably around 61 degrees F, 16 degrees C), but cloudy and there's a good chance for storms. I think my sister (how can I put it?) should screen potential husbands a little better than she has so far. Things haven't gone so well lately.
My dad was a veteran of the Second World War. He served in the Navy, and was in one of the units intended for the invasion of Japan in 1945. His unit was a group of subchasers (his was SC1269), who were to try to clear any submarines out of the way of the main landing force. The atomic bombs made invasion unnecessary. Anyway, after being discharged, he got his music degree and became a band director. I can't summarize his life in any meaningful way in this format, so let's just say he was a pretty amazing person who did a lot of things and positively influenced many people. We had our "Father vs. Son" moments, but I sure loved the ol' *@#%^$*!
Speaking of heroes, I thought I'd include some links to some of mine. There aren't many left nowadays, but there's still a few. Having intended to fight for the EZLN in Chiapas, Mexico myself, I admire the veterans of the International Brigades (of the Spanish Civil War) very much. Most of the young Americans who volunteered to fight in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade died in Spain. I think they still lie there today. Keep their memory alive. Visit these sites:

Take a moment to remember the fallen in all conflicts everywhere. You may not agree with them, but they were someone's child once and someone loved them....
Life is not for wimps
